Standing pair statue, painted limestone
Giza, cemetery 1200, tomb 1206; Dynasty 5
6–19775
The anthropology museum at the University of California
The identify of this couple is uncertain. An inscription over the chapel door of the tomb where it was found noted “a royal acquaintance” and “inspector of wa’b-priests” Ikhetneb. However, this sculpture may date from a subsequent use of the tomb originally belonging to Ikhetneb. One of the offering basins refers to another “a royal acquaintance” and “inspector of wa’b-priests” named Senenu. The color of this statue, with its gender-specific poses, has faded since Reisner’s time.
